About Nature's Sunshine Products

The History of Nature’s Sunshine

In 1972, Gene Hughes was looking for a more convenient way to take cayenne pepper. His wife, Kristine, suggested placing the pepper into easy-to-swallow gelatin capsules, which made it much easier to take without the strong taste of raw cayenne.

They soon discovered there was a market for their newly packaged herbal product. With the help of four family members, they began a small family business selling encapsulated cayenne and other herbs and supplements to health food stores.

The family realized that direct marketing could allow them to reach more people while also providing education about vitamins, herbs and nutritional supplements. This business model also gave individuals the opportunity to participate in sharing Nature’s Sunshine products with others.

Over the years, Nature’s Sunshine Products expanded internationally and developed a broad selection of herbal, vitamin, mineral and nutritional products.

Nature’s Sunshine Process of Quality

Nature’s Sunshine’s quality process begins with the sourcing and harvesting of raw herbs and continues through manufacturing, testing and the finished products that are prepared for customers.

Quality control and consistency are important parts of the Nature’s Sunshine manufacturing process, with raw ingredients and finished products evaluated throughout production.

NSF International, an independent organization involved in standards development and product certification, has awarded Nature’s Sunshine Good Manufacturing Practices certification.

NSF certification involves an extensive audit of manufacturing facilities, including reviews of production equipment, policies, procedures and manufacturing processes.

With decades of experience in the nutritional supplement industry, Nature’s Sunshine continues to focus on producing vitamins, minerals, herbs and nutritional formulas using established quality-control procedures.

Nature’s Sunshine also employs scientists and other professionals with experience in product research, development, formulation and quality control.
